New Trends for Spring

I know what you’re thinking, “how can she be talking about Spring when it is 14 degrees outside!” At least that is the temperature here in Minnesota. I am talking about Spring because believe it or not to all the designers and stores the Spring Season of shopping has begun! Soon that’s all you will see on store shelves and racks and you want to know what to buy. Some trends this spring are a repeat of last year, some are new and some are classic. I will talk about some of the most popular now, enjoy!

Nautical

The nautical trend is somewhat of a repeat from last year. This Spring stripes are very big on the fashion scene. As I have said in times past everyone can wear stripes it is just a matter of what works best on your body type. Classic items to get into the nautical spirit are:  boat shoes, rain boots or galoshes, horizontal striped tees, and white ankle pants to name a few!

Gym/Lounge Attire

The Runway Shows for Spring showed a lot of active wear inspired fashion. The key to wearing this trend is pairing laid back pieces  with dressy pieces to make the look put together and not sloppy. With that being said ,don’t go the gym workout and then wear that around all day and think you are wearing the trend. Tip on how to wear:  stylish zip hoodie with a button down shirt, boyfriend jeans and platform sneakers. This outfit is put together and on-trend!

Denim

In the Fall of 2011 colored jeans popped up allover the place! Colored denim is still here and there are more colors than ever. Safe bets on what colors to buy are the electric blue and plum colored jeans. These two colors are flattering on most body types. Remember when wearing colored denim that the rest of the outfit should be neutral in color. You don’t want to look like a rainbow. Joe’s Jeans is a great source for colored denim. White denim of course is in, but that pretty much goes without saying. The fit that is hot for Spring is the skinny-boyfriend cut. I love this cut because it is chic and easy going. It looks flattering on most body types because unlike a normal skinny jean it has a slightly looser fit and skims the body, therefore hiding any problem areas.

Blazers

A classic. I believe everyone should own a nice black blazer. A blazer is so versatile and instantly makes you look put together paired with the right outfit. Some blazer perfect pairings are: jeans and button down, loose dress, and pencil skirts. A nice blazer is definitely a classic that you shouldn’t mind investing in.

Ladylike

I am so happy that the ladylike silhouettes are here to stay. It is nice to be able to wear long skirts and oxford collars. I think that this trend will keep going as long as shows like: Pan Am and Mad Men are still getting top ratings. Examples of this trend are:  headbands, structured satchels, pleated skirts, lace blouses, tulle and pale pinks. Most of the Spring trends go along with the ladylike theme.

Maxi and Midi Skirts and Dresses

Going along with the ladylike trend. Maxi and Midi dresses are still in! I personally love wearing maxi and midi dresses. They are so easy and can  be dressed up or down. I recommend purchasing a maxi dress in a neutral color. You can wear a maxi dress with a pullover sweater for a more casual look. You can dress it up with a nice blazer or cardigan and bauble necklace. The looks you can do are endless!

Shoes

Like diamonds shoes are a girls best friend! The shoes that are at the top of the list for spring are bright, vibrant pumps! I think people have grown tired of all neutrals and want to implement color into their wardrobe to lift their moods! There is something about putting on the color of the year Tangerine Tango(orange) that instantly makes you feel happier.

Snakeskin is still making a strong statement on shoes and handbags. This trend usually is more on the edgy side, but this season it has taken on a more girly persona with items like pink snakeskin platforms.

Ballet Flats of course are on the hot list for Spring. This season you will see more bows and frilly things on flats. You will also see peeptoe flats and more metallic’s. Loafers will also have more variety because of the popularity they had last season with the menswear trend.

Colors and Prints

Floral prints are are still springing up allover the place and are great paired with stripes. New to the print scene are paisley prints which can be treated the same as floral as far as mixing prints go. Pastels are big on the color palette for Spring and add to the girly feel of the season! A print that came on the scene late in fall was the southwestern print. You will see more of it this spring. I like the southwestern print for its laid back feel. Last just like bright bold shoe colors, bright colors will be seen on your clothes as well!

Coats

A nice Trench coat is a classic item that I love, love, love! This season some designers are adding ruffles on the sleeves and collars others are adding peek-a-boo fabrics that can be seen when you roll up sleeves. Small touches can add fun personality to a classic trench. A black or navy trench is great for a curvy body type. The coat should hit right above the knee that is the most flattering length. I personally favor the a traditional trench coat.

I hope that this helps narrow down the most popular of the Spring Trends and gives you insight on how to incorporate them into your wardrobe.  Remember that all trends can be tailored to fit your personality type, that is the way the trend will look best on you. Trends are about making them your own.  Remember I love to read comments and answer fashion questions!
