Jeans, Jeans, Jeans! We love them, but we  hate looking for them! No matter what your size it still takes trying on a million pairs to find the right ones. There are however a few tricks to cut down on this frustration.

• First of all, find the right style and cut for you. Your hunt for the right pair will be cut down a whole lot if you target in on the right style and cut.
• Second, what is the right shade; darker colors are universally flattering and are a safe bet for all. However, if you have a slim or boyish figure you can play with different shades and textures.

 

• Third, pockets.  I insist on pockets no matter what the size of your frame is. No pockets are just too unflattering and highlight any possible imperfections.

 

Okay, now we covered what you do before you hit the dressing room now we can talk about what to do when you are in there…

v  Waist. How does the waist feel? Sit down, and stand up, are you doing adjusting as you stand and sit? Do you feel a breeze on your derriere? If you do that means you need to get a higher waisted jean. This leads me to my next point…

v  Rise. Low rise looks good on shorter torsos and high on taller torsos. Mid rise is universally flattering.

v  The fit. Your jeans should be flattering on you. This means no bunching or sagging in the butt or crouch. Your jeans should skim your body and not be super tight.  Also denim should have a bit of stretch, so check for spandex or other stretchy fabric on the label.

v  Length. If you are wearing a heeled shoe make sure the pants cover the back of the shoes. If you are wearing flats be sure the jeans hit at the ankle or floor skimming. It is not attractive to have dirty, dragging jeans.

Now that we have technical issues out-of-the-way, let’s get to basic styles!

The basics are: Boot cut, Skinny, Boyfriend and trousers. These are the styles that are in for the long haul. It would be wise to have a pair of each. Just make sure you have the pair that is right for you!

Here are a few of my fave jean shopping spots…

v  Charlotte Russe and Forever 21. Their prices are affordable and they have trendy styles.

v  Old Navy. They carry a wide range of sizes including plus size and are also affordable.

v  Nordstrom. Nordstrom has a wide selection of premium denim and also in-between sizes such as 9/10.

v  The Buckle. The jeans here are pricey. However, they usually have a jean specialist on hand to make sure you get the right fit!
